The Jaecoo 5 is the latest addition to the brand’s expanding lineup – a compact, stylish SUV aimed at value-conscious buyers.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Jaecoo 7, it’s worth a look. The well-priced, premium-feeling hybrid SUV has quickly gained popularity, selling over 10,000 units as of this moment. (Read more on the Jaecoo 7)
Now enters the Jaecoo 5, launching at an impressive starting price of just £25,000. The initial release will feature a petrol-powered version, with electrified variants expected to follow soon. It’s poised to compete with rivals such as the Kia EV3 and Suzuki Across.
A product of Chinese automaker Jaecoo, the 5 shares much of its design DNA with the Jaecoo 7. It features slim, high-mounted headlights, a large rectangular grille, and the brand’s signature "waterfall" design – giving it a bold, upscale presence. At first glance, the differences between the two models may be subtle. Some have even likened the Jaecoo 5 to a budget-friendly Range Rover, a comparison that has sparked both interest and debate.
Despite its compact dimensions, the Jaecoo 5 offers a spacious cabin with a practical layout and a range of premium features. Under the bonnet, it’s powered by the same 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine found in the Jaecoo 7 – producing 147 PS and 275 Nm of torque. It’s paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and offers three driving modes: Normal, Eco, and Sport.
In terms of safety, the Jaecoo 5 is equipped with Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities and a comprehensive suite of 19 ADAS features designed to reduce driver fatigue and improve road safety. The SUV has also been fine-tuned specifically for UK roads at Chery’s European R&D centre, ensuring it’s well-suited to local driving conditions.
Inside, it delivers modern tech including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, in-car karaoke, and a premium sound system—packing plenty of features into a compact package. Other standout touches include a 540° all-terrain view camera system and independent suspension as standard from the entry-level trim. The 20° approach and 30° departure angles even outperform models like the Discovery Sport, making it more capable than you might expect in tougher terrain.
And for those who like a bit of choice, the Jaecoo 5 will be available in five colours: Granite White, Zircon Grey, Basalt Black, Copper Green, and Lazuli Blue.
The initial launch will focus on the combustion engine model, with the EV version expected to be officially announced in the coming weeks. The petrol-powered Jaecoo 5 is set to arrive on UK roads by October 2025.
With its bold design, competitive pricing, and strong set of standard features, the Jaecoo 5 is shaping up to be a serious contender in the compact SUV market. As Jaecoo continues to establish itself in the UK, this latest model could help the brand attract a wider audience looking for premium looks without the premium price tag. Whether you're after everyday practicality or a stylish city SUV, the Jaecoo 5 is definitely one to watch.
