Our Top 5 Electric Cars of 2025

To celebrate EV Day, we’ve put together a list of our favorite electric cars of the year 2025 so far. We've chosen them based on a crucial trio of factors: range, performance, and, most importantly, overall value for money.

Renault 5

Topping our list isn't a high-end luxury model, but a car that truly defines the sweet spot of the market: the new Renault 5. With its bright colour schemes, including the iconic yellow, the beloved Renault 5 is back as a fully electric car that's not only practical but also offers exceptional value. It's a standout choice because it combines an attractive price with a solid electric range and a high level of standard equipment.

In fact, it’s so well-priced that it’s one of the few models that qualify for the government's new electric car grant, making it even more attractive to budget-conscious buyers. This grant, combined with its practical range and well equipped interior, is a key reason why it's at the top of our list.

The entry-level model starts at just £22,995 and comes with a 118bhp electric motor paired with a 40kWh battery, offering up to 190 miles of range. It includes 18-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, wireless phone mirroring, rear parking sensors, and LED lighting at both ends.

Skoda Elroq

Our list of top EVs wouldn't be complete without the Skoda Elroq, a car that perfectly proves you don't need to sacrifice practicality for electric power. It's one of the most attractive options on the market, especially for families looking for a compact SUV that won't break the bank.

The Elroq makes a strong case for itself with a competitive starting price around the £32k mark. This value is made even more compelling by its eligibility for the government's electric vehicle grant, making it an even more accessible and affordable choice. Adding to its appeal is the variety of battery options, with a range that goes from a practical 232 miles on the entry-level model to an impressive 360 miles for those who want to travel further.

But this isn't a case of all value and no substance. The Elroq boasts a generous 470-litre boot, so it's not short on space for family trips or the weekly shop. On the road, it feels sharp to drive, with a smooth and confident feel that makes it a pleasure to pilot, whether you're navigating tight city streets or cruising on the motorway.

Kia EV3

Next on our list is the Kia EV3, which positions itself as a compelling electric alternative to smaller family SUVs. It's Kia's smallest and most affordable electric SUV, and it offers a higher driving position and a soft, comfortable suspension that makes for a smooth ride.

While some of our other top picks are eligible for the government's electric vehicle grant, the EV3's price point places it just outside that window. However, that doesn't make it any less of a standout. The EV3 more than justifies its cost with a seriously impressive headline figure: the long-range model manages a staggering 375 miles on a single charge. This range puts it on par with some of the most expensive EVs on the market and gives it a distinct advantage over rivals like the Hyundai Kona Electric.

BMW iX

Rounding out our list is the BMW iX, a large luxury SUV that easily earns its place among the year's best. The iX is defined by its impressive blend of a futuristic, lounge-like interior and a truly effortless driving experience. It’s a showcase of luxury and technology, making every journey a pleasure.

One of its most compelling features is the exceptional electric range. With a range of up to 426 miles on some models, range anxiety becomes a thing of the past for most drivers. This makes the iX not just a comfortable city cruiser but a capable long-distance tourer.

Of course, this being a BMW, it isn’t short on power. The higher-spec models offer an impressive 659bhp, giving this large SUV surprising and immediate acceleration. The iX is also quick to charge, with speeds of up to 195kW possible, which means you can get back on the road in a flash.

Porsche Taycan

When it comes to electric luxury cars, the Porsche Taycan is in a league of its own. It’s a statement of design and engineering that could only come from Porsche, and for those who desire the ultimate blend of performance and prestige, it has to be at the top of the list. The most significant barrier, however, is its very steep price tag.

But for that price, you get a car that is an electric masterpiece. The Taycan offers a great variety of long-range models, with some variants achieving up to 399 miles on a single charge. This impressive range is a testament to Porsche’s engineering, but the real star of the show is the performance. The top-tier Turbo GT with the Weissach Package, for instance, can do 0-62 mph in a blistering 2.2 seconds. While that model comes with a supercar-level price tag of over £189k, even the entry-level Taycan offers a potent 0-62 mph time of 4.8 seconds, proving it's still quick enough to feel like a true Porsche.

Beyond the numbers, the Taycan is a joy to drive. Its interior is beautifully crafted with high-end materials, the steering feels perfectly weighted, and the ride is composed and comfortable. In every sense, this is a vehicle that delivers a sublime driving experience.
